Example of 'Horse Poor' is as follows...

I'm eating peanut butter at my desk.

No, not on crackers. Nope, not on an apple. Na-uh, not in a sandwich.

Out. Of. The. Jar.

Why, you ask? Because I ran out of food money and I don't get paid until Friday and a (fat) kids gotta eat!

To add insult to injury? My boss is an uber healthy dude and if he comes into my office, this could be difficult to explain.

Now, if you'll excuse me, my board is due today and I must run a check out to the barn...

  1. I know what you mean. I'm lamenting having to go to the store and buy coconut for a dinner tonight. Don't people know I need to be saving every penny I'm (not) making for that beautiful dressage bridle?

Yeah... hate buying food. Don't mind buying toilet paper, though. I can go without eating, but tp is a must.

  4. I see absolutely nothing wrong with eating pb out of a jar..

But that's probably cause I would have already lost the crackers, bread, etc it was supposed to be on..

  6. Feel your pain. Grain bill for two weeks 210. Our grocery bill for the next two weeks 112... UGH-Sigh...

FYI the GF eats peanut butter out of the jar too. Nothing wrong with it. Well the GF sleep walks too; I find peanut butter spoons all over the house.

  7. I'm glad to know you have your priorities straight. I was just thinking the other day how long it has been since I did any serious clothes shopping. We gotta do without so our ponies can have it all.

  11. I know that feeling! I have been offering all my services that I legally can. I am now going through all my stuff to sell it off so I can just get her some stupid shots. Sigh....

  12. haha...I think every horse person out there has felt your pain! I make what I call "a poor girl soup" which I can freeze and get about 12 servings of for under $10. When I was DYING to go out I would get Chinese and get an egg roll and white rice for under $3 and break open the egg roll and stir it all up and it would make 2 meals. I feel your pain and I hope that your paycheck helps out!

  14. I eat PB out of the jar for dinner all the time. Part horse poor, part lazy... but I see nothing wrong with your meal. Horses aren't cheap and a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Aunt Sally and Aunt Nellie (Mae, that is) are not very understanding when it comes to our equine spending needs....

  15. Sorry, I can't help but laugh. I totally get the meaning of horse poor. I would not eat before my horse wanted for anything. It just goes with the territory, I guess.
